Friday Snippet #6: this is not butterfly porn, I swear

You are lucky you are not a butterfly.

Here is a little random science fact for you.

So why are you lucky?They are very pretty, I totally agree but when it comes to reproduction... it can be bad.

Butterflies mate back to back and get hooked to one another like you can see on the photo (which is not an uncommon thing in the insect world I believe). Sex can take a while, and I am talking hours. The problem is, if one of the two dies well, let's just say the one left alive is fudged.

There is no way to get rid of the dead, attached butterfly. They are stuck together forever. Which unfortunately for the other one means they can't mate with anyone else, and if female can't lay eggs. I doubt it is very easy to fly around with someone attached to your bottom...

Oh and if you ever see this situation I would advice you not to try and help them by separating them, I have heard that that can lead to ripping the alive one in half.

So let's start this weekend by feeling lucky that we don't mate like butterflies.

Zum Wochenende geht es wissenschaftlich weiter. Und ihr könnt euch freuen, dass ihr kein Schmetterling seid.

Ja, Schmetterlinge können sehr schön sein und sie können fliegen aber die Reproduktion kann ordentlich nach hinten losgehen. Wie ihr auf dem Foto sehen könnt, paaren sie sich mit ihren Hinterteilen aneinander. Und die stehen nicht einfach nur so darum und die Befruchtung passiert einfach. Oh nein, die verhaken sich damit nichts schief geht (ist soweit ich weiß auch gar nicht so unverbreitet im Insektereich) und das kann dann eine Weile dauern (STUNDEN). Das Problem ist wenn einer der beiden währenddessen stirbt...

Man bekommt die Haken nicht alleine auseinander und man ist für immer miteinander verhakt. Der noch lebende Schmetterling hat also bis er/sie selbst stirbt einen toten an sich dran hängen. Was überhaupt nicht spaßig klingt und das Leben sicherlich nicht einfach macht, Fortpflanzung und Eiablage kann man auf jeden Fall knicken.

Und solltet ihr sowas mal irgendwo sehen, denkt nicht ihr tut dem Schmetterling einen Gefallen, ich habe gehört, das funktioniert nicht und wenn man Pech hat, reißt man den noch lebenden in zwei Hälften.

Also beginnen wir dieses Wochenende doch damit, froh darüber zu sein, dass wir uns nicht wie Schmetterlinge fortpflanzen!

Friday Snippet #4 - Why people, why?!

Sometimes I really do not understand people. Like, why do you press the button for the stoplights but then you don't wait for them to turn green for you but cross the street whenever it is empty anyway meaning that if they are the only ones crossing over the cars will be stopping for nothing.

What is the point?!

You know, if you press the button why don't you just wait for what you pressed for?! If you are going to walk at a red light you don't have to make the cars stop unnecessarily. That is just mean if you ask me.

I am all for pressing the button, especially when kids are around, because you need to set a good example but then wait and don't get on peoples nerves...

Though it is not quite as annoying as people wanting to get in the tube/underground/S-Bahn. How are people supposed to get out if you block the door?! And you won't get in until everybody who wants to get off is out. The easier you make it for people to get off the faster you can get in.

Is that so hard?! That is something that really annoys me. Why people seem to think blocking my way out will result in them getting in faster will forever be a mystery to me...

Rant over.

Manchmal verstehe ich Menschen ja nicht. Wieso drückt man den Knopf für die grüne Fußgängerampel wenn man dann doch einfach über rot geht sobald die Straße frei ist?! Wenn dann nicht gerade zufällig noch andere Leute folgen müssen die Autos für niemanden anhalten.

Äh HALLO? Wieso?!

Wenn man sich schon die "Mühe" macht und den Knopf drückt, dann kann man jawohl auch darauf warten, dass die Fußgängerampel grün wird. Bei diesen Drückampeln müssen die Autos schließlich nur anhalten wenn jemand über die Straße will und wenn die dann halten und da ist niemand der drüber läuft ist das schon sehr nervig...

Ich bin ja eigentlich schon Fraktion Drücken, vor allem wenn Kinder das sehen, da man mit gutem Beispiel voran gehen sollte, aber wenn ihr eh über rot geht, warum drücken?!

Aber wisst ihr was noch VIEL nerviger ist? Diese Menschen die in die S-Bahn einsteigen wollen und der Meinung sind, dass das viel schneller geht wenn sie die Tür blockieren. Macht Sinn. Dann kommen die Leute die aussteigen wollen nämlich viel schneller raus.

HALLO?! Ich finde es immer super, wenn ich aussteigen will und jemand genau vor mir steht. Erst RAUS lassen, also Platz machen und dann kann man super schnell einsteigen... Muss man auch nicht verstehen, oder?!

So, Gedankensalat rausgelassen.

Friday Snippet #3 - Girls, Girls, Girls

After primary school I went to an all girl school, when moving out of my parents I lived with two girls and my current flat situation will be turning into an all girl situation soon. When finding out about the all girl school a lot of people ask me, if that wasn't really bitchy.

I don't know why people think it gets bitchy when it is just girls together... it doesn't necessarily have to be. I went to a "normal" (girl and boy) school for a while and tbh an all girl school wasn't more bitchy. I feel like it is also very dependant on the girls that get together. Yes there was a drama at our school (just like at any other school) but my class actually got along very well. There was no drama in my old flat and I am not having any bitchfights with my current female flatmates.

So yeah, I just felt like talking about the fact that many girls getting together does not automatically mean a bubble of bitchiness appears around us. I just love a good girls night and well yes I reckon I do have more girl friends than guy friends.

Not sure there is a real take home message. Just something I was thinking about. I quite love girliness. And if I could do it again I would always choose going to the all girl school.

Nach der Grundschule ging es für mich (freiwillig) auf eine Mädchenschule, meine erste WG teilte ich mir mit zwei Mädels (LOVE YOU) und auch meine derzeitige WG wird bald eine komplette Mädels-WG (wir sind dann vier Mädels - WOW). Wenn Leute herausfinden, dass ich auf eine Mädchenschule gegangen bin, kommt häufig die Frage, ob es da nicht viele Zickereien gab.

Ich weiß nicht, warum manche denken, dass es bitchig und zickig wird wenn viele Mädels regelmäßig aufeinander treffen. Bei uns an der Schule gab es nicht mehr Zickereien als an anderen Schulen (und ja, ich kann das schon beurteilen weil ich ne Weile an einer "normalen" Schule war). Es kommt natürlich auch immer sehr auf die Kombination aus Mädchen an - meine Klasse war generell eine sehr harmonische Klasse die recht gut miteinander auskam während es in anderen Klassen ein bisschen mehr gab.

So, ich wollte einfach nur mal loswerden, dass nur Mädchen nicht bedeutet, dass es zickig wird. Ich liebe Mädelsabende und ja wahrscheinlich habe ich auch mehr Freundinnen als Freunde.

Ich weiß auch nicht so recht, was genau ich sagen will, auf jeden Fall habe ich meine Entscheidung mit der Mädchenschule nie bereut - würde es immer wieder machen.

Friday Snippet #2 - Thanks, Gabriella!

Most of the time (probably 90%) when I scroll through Instagram and come across a new post of Vanessa Hudgens (how pretty is she?!) I immediately have a High School Musical song stuck in my head. It isn't always the same, it varies. Yesterday it was Start Of Something New.

I was actually not the biggest HSM fan back when it first came out. I was not keen on Zac Efron, but tbh that was mostly because of his hairstyle, I came to like him. I have to admit, I am kinda part of the original main target group for those films, but sometimes I like to swim against the current so to say.

But I can't deny that the songs are really catchy and great to sing along with and I learned to quite enjoy HSM.

After the first few seconds of really enjoying the HSM song being in my head (I have no shame anymore of admitting that I have 2 or 3 songs in my Spotify Playlist) I get a little sentimental and "home sick". But not home sick to my parents house.

HSM just reminds me of my very first flat mates, who have grown so close to my heart and I miss having them around and living with them and having "WG Abends" (basically for us that meant a girls night). Which did at some point might have involved HSM.

I am sure we all have certain films or songs that remind us of certain people and moments.

So this Friday I would like to thank Vanessa Hudgens, for being one of the many things that makes me miss those two.

Now hit me with one of your films/songs that remind you of someone!

Actually, something else I need to share on this. There is a certain male perfume/body spray/whatever (I don't actually know) that will always remind me of the HUGE crush I used to have on Hayden Kristensen when I was like 13 (?). Just because we were in England in a shop and I was looking at a Star Wars III book with photos of him when this smell appeared.

Oh and have a nice weekend!

In so 90% der Fälle wenn ich durch Instagram scrolle und ein neuer Post von Vanessa Hudgens auftaucht spielt mein Kopf direkt irgendein High School Musical Song ab. Heute war es Start Of Something New, den hatte ich schon eine Weile nicht mehr im Kopf.

Ich muss zugeben, dass ich als der Film/die Filme rauskamen ja nicht ihr größter Fan war. Ich war nicht angetan von Zac Efron (wie viele andere), was definitiv sehr viel mit seiner Frisur zu tun hatte. Inzwischen mag ich ihn aber sogar fast. Und auch wenn ich quasi zur originalen Zielgruppe für die HSM-Filme gehört habe musste ich dann halt doch mal wieder ein bisschen gegen den Strom schwimmen.

Aber ich konnte auch schon damals nicht leugnen, dass die Songs einen mitreißen und super zum mitsingen sind... Inzwischen mag ich HSM auch eigentlich ganz gerne.

Nachdem ich also die erste Sekunden des HSM Liedes in meinem Kopf genießen konnte (inzwischen kann ich auch dazu stehen, dass ich das eine oder andere Lied in meiner Spotify Playlist habe) werde ich dann doch etwas sentimental und bekomme Heimweh. Aber nicht nach meinem Elternhaus. Sondern nach meiner ersten WG und meinen Mitbewohnerinnen und nach WG Abenden. Und ja, WG Abende hieß auch mal HSM gucken..

Ich denke ihr kennt diese Filme oder Lieder die euch an ganz gewisse Menschen und Momente erinnern...

Diesen Freitag gibt es also ein kleines Dankeschön an Vanessa Hudgens dafür, dass ich diese beiden wichtigen Menschen mal wieder vermisse.

Und jetzt genug von mir, welche Filme oder Lieder erinnern euch an diese ganz besondere Person?

Wobei ich noch kurz was witziges erzählen muss. Es gibt diesen einen ganz bestimmten Männergeruch (und tatsächlich weiß ich nicht welches Parfüm oder so es ist) was mich immer an Hayden Christensen erinnert (auf den stand ich so mit 13 oder so total). Weil wir in England irgendwann mal in einem Laden waren in dem ich ein Star Wars III Buch mit Bildern von ihm angeschaut habe und dann da auf einmal dieser Duft war!

Friday Snippet #1 - the banana dilemma

Hallöchen!

So on Sunday (the day before a very busy week full of unexpected, stressful rollercoaster rides started) I decided that I want to do more than one blogpost a week, I really wanted to get another one out there but I felt like Sunday was too close to Tuesday (which is when I normally put up a blog post), so I picked Friday. Since I didn't want to get to the point where I was last time with my blog, when I felt really pressured by myself to post twice a week and come up with something awesome, I decided I would start this thing called Friday Snippet.

What is a Friday Snippet, you ask?

Well, let me tell you! I will basically write a short post (especially compared to my sometimes rather long ones) on one thing that is going through the whirlwind that is my mind! So with no further ado, we will dive right into Friday Snippet #1!

I am a huge banana lover and I eat at least one banana a day (my fructose intolerance making that the only fruit I can eat daily). And then the other day, I was told something... You know how with apples you are supposed to eat the skinny because that is where a lot of the good stuff is?

Well, I hope you are sitting down! You know those (if you ask me) yucky banana strings that you just have to peel off when they come lose? Well my MA supervisor told me that that is where most of the good stuff is (your vitamins and that).

But I just can't. If a string comes lose or looks too big and stringy, it needs to come off. I need to sacrifice the vitamins because I am not at a point in my picky relationship with food where I can do this (DRAMA QUEEN MUCH?!)

How do you feel about the banana strings?

Typisch Jenny. Ich entscheide den Sonntag vor einer absolut stressigen-Achterbahn-Woche (man muss fairer Weise sagen, dass ich Sonntag noch nicht wusste was ein auch emotionales Durcheinander das wird), dass ich anfangen will, doch zwei Posts hochzuladen weil mir einer nicht reicht. Aber setze ich mich hin und schreibe den direkt Sonntag? Ich denke nicht. Auf jeden Fall hatte ich aber die Idee um zu vermeiden was letztes mal mit meinem Blog passiert ist: bla bla...hab mich selbst zu sehr unter Druck gesetzt...bla bla...und hab die Liebe zum Schreiben verloren...bla bla... Und das vermeiden tue ich mit den Friday Snippets, ich finde auf deutsch könnte man sie schön Freitagsschnipsel nennen.

Freitagsschnipsel? Wovon redet die Frau?

Tjaha, das erzähle ich euch mal! Freitagsschnipsel werden kurze Posts (manchmal sind meine ja doch ziemlich lang, was auch nicht jedem gefällt) zu allen möglichen Kleinigkeiten die gerade durch meinen Kopf schwirren. Ich hatte schon überlegt, dass so in Richtung Denkfutter zu nennen, aber dann dachte ich mir, fühle ich mich mit meiner Themenwahl vielleicht etwas eingeschränkt. Bevor der erste Schnipsel aber nur wegen der Einführung doch wieder super lang wird, fange ich jetzt wohl mal endlich mit Freitagsschnipsel #1 an!

Inzwischen führen Bananen und ich seit einigen Jahren eine glückliche Beziehung zueinander und eigentlich findet mindestens täglich eine ihren Weg in meinen Bauch (da meine Fruktoseintoleranz das zu dem einzigen Obst macht was ich täglich essen kann - ohne Schmerzen und so). Und dann, letztens ... Ich hoffe ihr sitzt während ihr das lest... Diese (meiner Meinung nach) ekeligen Streifen an der Banane, die ich sofort abziehe wenn sie auch nur locker aussehen...

Naja ihr wisst doch, dass man beim Apfel die Schale mitessen soll, weil direkt unter ihr, dass ganze Zeug was so gut ist in den größten Mengen vorkommt? Bei Bananen gibt es auch so eine Stelle wo das gute Zeug (ihr wisst schon... Vitamine...) und ihr könnte euch wohl denken wo... bei diesen Streifen/Schnüren/BÄÄH/wie auch immer ihr das nennen wollt.

Aber ich kann das einfach nicht. Bei aller Liebe und Wunsch, meinen geringen Vitaminkonsum so groß wie möglich zu machen... Ich bin ein pingeliger Esser aber Bananen und ich sind in unserer Beziehung noch nicht an diesem Punkt angelangt. Es tut mir leid (Wow, DRAMA QUEEN hier drüben!)

Wie steht ihr denn so zu den Banana Strängen? (Ich kann doch damit nicht alleine da stehen)
